The Songwriters Association of Canada (S.A.C.) recently submitted comments on the CRTC’s Broadcast Notice of Consultation 2025-52 – The Path Forward: Supporting Canadian and Indigenous Audio Content.
At the heart of the S.A.C.’s message was the assertion that the enforcement of strong regulations have helped build a thriving Canadian music ecosystem—one that benefits creators, consumers, and broadcasters alike—and must be maintained.
And now, with the implementation of the Online Streaming Act, digital service providers and platforms must be compelled to contribute financially to the creation and promotion of Canadian content.
Finally, in any new or revised definition of Canadian musical works, songwriters and composers must remain at the core.
The S.A.C. thanks the commission for holding these important consultations.
