Our Vision and Values
The Songwriters Association of Canada is a friendly community of music creators that exists to support each other in the creative journey. We achieve this by advocating on behalf of music creators to protect the value of their work and by offering a suite of invaluable services as part of an affordable membership offering. We also provide educational resources and facilitate networking that helps music creators to connect with labels, producers, partners and other music creators.
For more than 35 years, we have battled to help music creators to build their careers by getting paid for their work and worked to build a community around the art and business of creating music.
Our Values
The S.A.C. is guided by a number of core beliefs that inform all our advocacy, education and community activities. Each day we work towards building an ethical, fair and optimistic future for music creators in Canada. Fundamental to this are three principal values:
We promote and protect the effective implementation of copyright. We have conducted research and helped create the Fair Trade Music initiative to promote transparency and fair remuneration along the entire music value chain
We are the voice of creators that unites the music community. This is ingrained in all our work, from our annual Black History Month live broadcast event to our collaborations on Ontario Culture Days, International Womens’ Day or Pride Week Toronto.
We joined the Canadian music community to support the Canadian Creative Industries Code of Conduct to ensure a healthy culture, with zero tolerance for all forms of harassment.
Objectives
The S.A.C. led by active professional music creators and works in the areas of community, education, advocacy. We are committed to the development and recognition of Canadian music creators by pursuing the following strategic aims.
