S.A.C. was pleased to submit its response to Canadian Heritage’s National Survey on the Creative Technology Program, providing recommendations on how federal investments in AI and technological innovation can best support Canada’s cultural sector.

S.A.C. recommended using existing, established cultural funding organizations rather than creating new administrative or jury systems, and emphasized that academic institutions and technology companies should only receive cultural-sector funding when working in meaningful partnership with organizations representing actual creators and rights holders.

The submission also stressed that public investment in AI must complement and not substitute for a strong copyright framework grounded in transparency, authorization, licensing, and fair remuneration for creators.
