How to Write a Throwback Song Without Sounding Dated

A “throwback song” is one that emulates a song from the past, but in a modern way. This is done by absorbing a golden oldie’s melodic and rhythmic themes, finding or creating samples that echo the feel of the song, and using lyrics that hint of nostalgia. But only use one or two of these elements so you don’t end up writing an old song.
