Meeting with The Department of Canadian Heritage

Advocacy, GenAI

S.A.C. President Arun Chaturvedi and Chair Greg Johnston met today with the Department of Canadian Heritage, urging them to champion principles that protect music creators with respect to generative AI. In particular, they stressed the importance of the “Three C’s”:

  1. Consent: Obtaining consent for the use of their works in GAI systems
  2. Credit: Giving proper credit for the use of their works and any derivative output.
  3. Compensation: Ensuring fair compensation for the use of their works and for any derivative works

The Songwriters Association of Canada thanks the Government of Canada for their ongoing consultations.
