As a member of the ACCORD group—a united coalition representing English and French songwriters, screen composers, publishers, and their collective societies—the Songwriters Association of Canada (S.A.C.) recently submitted recommendations to the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) regarding the definition of Canadian Audiovisual (A/V) works (CRTC 2024-288).
ACCORD’s recommendations highlight the need to maintain the key creative point for screen composers and ensure that a larger share of music sync budgets is allocated to Canadian-authored works—not just works with Canadian-owned rights.
We remain committed to advocating for policies that protect, uphold, and strengthen the rights of Canadian songwriters in the digital era. S.A.C. will continue engaging with the CRTC and other government bodies to ensure fair recognition and opportunities for music creators.
