CIAM General Assembly in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Representatives from the Songwriters Association of Canada (S.A.C.) recently attended the International Council of Music Creators (CIAM) general assembly in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. S.A.C. President Arun Chaturvedi provided an update on Canadian developments on behalf of Music Creators North America (MCNA). His comments highlighted several key points:

– The Online Streaming Act: Recently passed legislation in Canada requiring foreign-owned tech giants to contribute to the production and promotion of Canadian music.

– Generative AI: The threats and opportunities presented by generative AI, emphasizing the need for guidelines to protect music creators.

– Musiccreator.ca: The launch of this essential online educational platform for music creators which focuses on the business of music.

S.A.C. was also proud to sponsor songwriter/producer/artists Fjora and Phoenix Pagliacci, who participated in the inaugural CIAM International Women’s Song Camp. This pan-continental professional song camp brought together women from around the world to create an impressive collection of songs.
