Remembering Jon Erickson (1956-2023)

Industry News

Jon Erickson was a veteran Canadian sound engineer and tour manager, and was beloved by the greater Canadian music community.

Originally from Calgary, Jon came to Toronto in the early 1970s to work with touring bands. Because of his sound engineering skills, and his spirit, many artists at this time took note of Jon and his abilities, and before he knew it, he was touring the world as Rush’s FOH mixer for nearly a decade.  Staying in and around Toronto to start a family, Jon began working as an in-house sound engineer at Kingswood Theatre and Comfort Sound, and eventually bought into a P.A. company that he ran for several years. Jon continued his life and career by simultaneously tour managing and sound engineering many of Canada’s biggest acts on the road.

Many of Jon’s peers and the music community quickly came forward with some wonderful stories and tributes about Jon following the news of his passing; including Gord Sinclair (The Tragically Hip), Bernie Finklestein (Manager to Bruce Cockburn), Doug McClement (Sound Engineer), Gary Topp (Famed Toronto concert promoter) and many others. His loss will be felt by the entire music community, and S.A.C. sends Jon’s friends, family, and peers our heartfelt condolences.
