Our Vision and Values

The Songwriters Association of Canada is a friendly community of music creators that exists to support each other on the creative journey. We achieve this by advocating on behalf of music creators to protect the value of their work and by offering a suite of invaluable services as part of an affordable membership offering. We also provide educational resources and facilitate networking that helps music creators to connect with labels, producers, partners and other music creators.

For over 40 years, the S.A.C. has worked tirelessly to help music creators build their careers by ensuring fair remuneration for the use of their work and together have built a community around the art and business of creating music.

Our Vision

To have a universal recognition that songs play a spiritual and intellectual role in society which is of profound and lasting benefit to humanity.

Our Mission

To protect and develop the creative and business environments for music creators in Canada and around the world.

Our Values

At the S.A.C., we are guided by a number of core beliefs that inform all our advocacy, education and community activities. Each day we work towards building an ethical, fair and optimistic future for music creators in Canada. Fundamental to this are three principal values:

Songs are the foundation upon which the entire music industry thrives. We deeply value music’s intrinsic worth, which is why we promote and protect copyright protections. We’ve also spearheaded the Fair Trade Music initiative to champion transparency and ensure fair compensation across the entire music value chain.

We believe diversity is our strength, and we celebrate it. We are dedicated to creating inclusive and safe spaces for all music creators and the broader musical ecosystem in Canada. Diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives are at the core of everything we do.

We support the Canadian Creative Industries Code of Conduct and have zero tolerance for all forms of harassment.

Our Objectives

We are led by professional music creators who are committed to the development and recognition of Canadian music creators by pursuing the following strategic aims:
