S.A.C. Champions Songwriters in CRTC Canadian Content Roundtable

Today, S.A.C. President Arun Chaturvedi and Chair Greg Johnston participated in CRTC roundtable discussions regarding the definition of Canadian content in audio media.

They reaffirmed their support for a robust Canadian content system and emphasized that any updates must prioritize the song and songwriter.

S.A.C. stressed that the criteria for music and lyrics must continue to carry no less than 50% of the available points, ensuring the song remains central to qualification as Canadian content.

Additionally, they highlighted the wealth of data held by organizations like SOCAN, Re:Sound and CMRRA, which could be leveraged to help identify qualifying songs.

S.A.C. sincerely thanks the commission for their ongoing consultations.
