Advocacy, Broadcast, GenAI

On Wednesday, October 8, 2025, members of the Songwriters Association of Canada’s leadership team attended a special reception in Ottawa hosted by the Coalition for the Diversity of Cultural Expressions (CDCE), under the theme “Committing to Canadian Cultural Sovereignty.”

Held at the House of Commons, the event provided a valuable opportunity for S.A.C. representatives to engage directly with policymakers, Members of Parliament, and cultural leaders. In attendance were key figures such as the Honourable Steven Guilbeault, Minister of Canadian Culture and Identity; Martin Champoux, MP for Drummond and Vice-Chair of the Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage; and the Honourable Yves-François Blanchet, Leader of the Bloc Québécois.

Hosted by MP Martin Champoux, the reception brought together voices from across Canada’s cultural sector to affirm the importance of preserving and strengthening Canadian cultural sovereignty in the digital age.

The S.A.C. is proud to stand alongside the CDCE and other allied organizations in advocating for policies that support, protect, and promote Canadian music creators and cultural workers.
