Sarah Slean is a 4x Juno-nominated artist with a multi-disciplinary, genre-defying career spanning three decades. Signed to Warner/Atlantic Records in her teens, she has since released 12 original albums, toured internationally, performed on the TED Global stage, published poetry, starred in short films (spawning two Gemini nominations), penned award-winning chamber works and collaborated with nearly every orchestra in Canada, including a Juno-nominated recording with Symphony Nova Scotia (2021). Sarah holds a Masters in Composition and recent commissions include the National Arts Centre Orchestra, Iris Trio, Elora Singers, Stratford Festival and a chamber opera for Against the Grain Theatre that has just been nominated for a Dora Mava Moore Award (2026). An active screen composer, she earned a Canadian Screen Award in 2021, followed by another nomination in 2023. Her new stage musical based on the life of painter Maud Lewis will premiere on the National Arts Centre/Theatre Calgary stages in 2028. She was invited to sing the first full program of Joni Mitchell’s music as orchestrated by Vince Mendoza in 2018 with the Saskatoon Symphony and has since performed the program with orchestras across the country. Sarah is currently serving her third term on the SOCAN board of directors and teaches film scoring and songwriting at York University.
