Glimpse of Sun

Stepped off the bus into a foot of snow
So much for the green green grass of home
After ten prison years the law forgives
They toss you out to see if you remember how to live
I wrote you they were dropping me in town tonight
But all I see is strangers in the station lights
I’m feelin’ like a punchline in a drunkard’s fight…
And then there’s you…

You draw the pins from your hair and lose fifteen years
You’re the tomboy I knew before hard times and tears
You seem to forget what I become
And the clouds lift just enough to see a glimpse of sun
And the clouds lift just enough to see a glimpse of sun

Fell from your mountain paradise into dustbowl hell
Chased a road to a concrete cell
Love died at the end of a gun
Buried under stone walls no glimpse of sun
But the world’s shifted, this moment is new
For eternity you stare through me
Your eyes of silver blue…
And then you smile…

You poured a rainbow ‘cross a desert cold and hard
You dragged a poem from this rebel’s heart
Beyond the mountain spreads a sky red as blood
And I think tomorrow we might see a glimpse of sun
I think tomorrow we might see a glimpse of sun

Love Until It Isn't

Valentina wandered in today
To drop off her heart, offered to stay
But you were otherwise engaged
Takes a fool to turn down such a present
Seems you can’t see love until it isn’t

Valentina’s shuttered eyes
Look at you and realize
A caged bird cannot fly
She broke her heart on the walls of your prison
You can’t see love until it isn’t

You dodged a bullet – a real close call
You can’t see love can’t see love can’t see love no
It was a near life experience, that’s all
You can’t see love can’t see love can’t see no no no no

Valentina’s gone, she dried her tears
Called by a voice only lovers can hear
Is it missing her or the silence you fear?
You could have held the sun ’cept you didn’t
Seems you can’t see love until it isn’t
Yeah you could have held the sun but you didn’t
You can’t see love until it isn’t

New Love Born feat. Vanessa Lio

Locked myself
In a dark place
Then light broke in
I see your face
Funny thing
In shadow gloom
Turn your head
Love blooms

Love’s new born
It’s a new mornin’
New love born

Past is lines
On the face of the man
Future’s written
In the palm of your hand
Surround this prison
Sound your angel horn
Bring these walls down
Bring me a new morn

Love’s new born
It’s a new mornin’
New love born
New love born

INSTR

Love’s new born
It’s a new mornin’
New love born

Love’s new born
It’s a new mornin’
A new love born
A new love born

Something That She Wants

Daddy gives her money, helps her make ends meet
But that ain’t what she wants
He loads her up with diamonds, ice helps to beat the heat
But that ain’t what she really wants
Love is all I’ve got to give and love is all she needs
Something that she wants

Her mama gave her attitude, she needs it on the street
But that ain’t exactly what she wants
They’re sister survivors and you know way down deep
Mommy prob’ly knows just what she wants
It’s true that times have changed but candy still tastes sweet
I give her something that she wants

She’s my Cinderella she got no princess desires
I know what she really wants
Not lookin’ for Prince Charming to set her world on fire
Yes I know what she really wants
True love is all she wants a poor boy can provide
I give her something that she wants
Light a smile on her face put sparkle in her eye
Something that she wants
I give her something that she wants
Mmmm something that she wants

Biography:

Parked somewhere in the intersection of alt-country singer-songwriter, classic bluegrass and old school folk, Greg "Harpfool" Shields and Late Fakirs share relatable stories, cinematic images and edgy philosophy, grounded in metaphorical truth. A wide range of influences can be blamed for the musical framework used to deliver the Late Fakirs state of mind: you may detect sonic reminders of Dylan or Steve Earle, a hint of Paul Simon in the songwriting, and a little something in the lyric perspectives that is unique.

Emerging from roots and rock acts in Ottawa and Toronto, Greg was a long time member of Toronto hellbilly alt-country band Luckyfool. Late Fakirs released their first EP "Love's a Dying Rose" in August 2017. Extreme weather events and ecological decline were just a few of the immediate effects. New music is in the pipelines for 2019, so hold onto your hats, your horses and any other loose objects.
