Greatest Gifts

Greatest Gifts
Written and composed by Dillon Budden in January of 2017.

Verse 1
Siblings shine a ray of light that can lift the darkest day
Try your best to hold them tight don’t let them go astray
Trying times may fuel a fight make amends don’t delay
A bond that’s formed so early in life is too high a price to pay

Chorus
The greatest gifts of all
From a Ma and a Pa
Treasure more than anything their love above all
Some may go their separate ways don’t forget to send a call
Take care of what my mama says are the greatest gifts of all

Verse 2
Cherish every family time don’t let them pass you by
Be there when you’re needed most always help a brother fly
A sister’s love can surely beat the beauty of a star lit sky
The weight of a strong tied family bond can make for a hard goodbye
Repeat Chorus
Interlude (Non-lexical vocable – instrumental using voice)
Repeat Chorus (Key change)

The Fight (Sissy's Song)

The Fight
Composed by Dillon Budden on April 9, 2016

Acknowledgments: This song was inspired by the strength of my younger sister Michaela who battled with childhood cancer.

Verse 1:

She was never the one to get in fights
She was gentle and sweet and she liked to be tucked in at night
But there came a day when things went wrong
Little did she know that she would be fighting for her life

Chorus 1:

And I cried no
It can’t be so
We had it so good, everything was alright
But now she’s fighting for her life
Please don’t let go
Don’t give up the fight
Don’t give up the fight

Verse 2:

Summer 08 just didn’t go right
Took a turn for the worst and became the nightmare of our lives
Friends and family gathered round
They gave us hope, and they helped us off the ground

Chorus 2:

But still I cried no
It can’t be so
We had it so good, everything was alright
But now she’s fighting for her life
Please don’t let go
Don’t give up the fight
Don’t give up the fight

Bridge:

She was a trooper through it all
Her courage and strength, it made me feel so small
I’ll always be grateful as long as I have her by my side
But I’ll never forget the day things went wrong

Chorus 3:

And I cried no
It can’t be so
We had it so good, everything was alright
And then she was fighting for her life
But she didn’t let go
And she won the fight
Yeah she won the fight

Outro:

La la la la la la la la la
La la la la la la la la…

The Garrison Guitar

The Garrison Guitar
Composed by Dillon Budden on April 18, 2016

Acknowledgements: This song was inspired from my good luck in 2007. More specifically, the day I won my Garrison guitar from the CBC television broadcast, “Living Newfoundland and Labrador”, which was hosted by Krista Rudofsky.

Verse 1:

A 12 year old boy
Nearly 5 feet tall
Got home from school
In The spring time thaw
Life was good
As it should be

Earlier that week he had entered in a draw
The big grand prize was a shiny guitar
And he thought
What chance do I have?

Chorus 1:

Well the phone started ringing
His dad started grinning
He said Son come here
There’s a lady on the phone on the phone for you
Yeah she’s asking for you
She said boy you’re a winner
His eyes were a glimmer
As she told him he was the owner of a shiny new guitar
A Garrison guitar

Verse 2:

Well with eyes full of pride
He ran next door and he cried
He sang out to his gran
And he told her he won the grand prize
Should have seen the look in her eyes

She said just goes to show
Never consider yourself small
I knew the odds were slim
But you had just as good a chance as anyone else
Now just tell me how you found out

Chorus 2:

Well the phone started ringing
And dad started grinning
He said Son come here
There’s a lady on the phone on the phone for you
Yeah she’s asking for you
She said boy you’re a winner
My eyes were a glimmer
As she told me I was the owner of a shiny new guitar
A Garrison guitar

Bridge:

Nine years later and I still have her
Strumming my way through every day
I’ll always remember the day I got her
There’s a story behind her name
And this is how it goes…

Chorus 3:

Well the phone started ringing
And dad started grinning
He said Son come here
There’s a lady on the phone on the phone for you
Yeah she’s asking for you
She said boy you’re a winner
My eyes were a glimmer
As she told me I was the owner of a shiny new guitar
My Garrison guitar
My Garrison guitar
