Chances Are

There's so much I've never told you
That I wish I could just say
Like a fear that holds on to you
Some words won't see the light of day

I can see something in your eyes
That looks a lot like what's in mine
When am I going to realize
You only get once chance at life

And
Chances are I'm not alone
Chances are you share this ache
Chances are you've always known
Chances are its no mistake
But when push comes to shove
Chances are something I don't take

I hate having to be apart
Reality can be hard to take
Absence doesn't help the heart
When its already starting to break

When you look me in the eyes
Your soul gets tangled up with mine
When am I going to realize
You only get once chance at life

And
Chances are I'm not alone
Chances are you share this ache
Chances are you've always known
Chances are its no mistake
But when push comes to shove
Chances are something I don't take

If we ever see eye to eye
And can say what's on our minds
Will we finally realize
You only get once chance at life

And
Chances are we're not alone
Chances are we share this ache
Chances are we've always known
Chances are its no mistake
But when push comes to shove
Chances are something we don't take
Chances are something we don't take

Cold Ginger and Rye

The leaves are like teardrops
In the fall of the year
A pale blanket of colour
As winter draws near
When the cold starts to set in
We sit huddled inside
Me and my friends here
Cold ginger and rye

As Jack Frost whiles his time away
Outside in the snow
We keep the fire stoked
To fend off the cold
There’s so many worse ways
We could pass the time
Me and my friends here
Cold ginger and rye

And we dream all our old dreams
And even some new
And we share all our secrets
And a few laughs too
All we need is each other
To keep spirits high
Me and my friends here
Cold ginger and rye

So here’s to my old chums
Companions and friends
With me on this journey
From now to the end
My steadfast silent partners
‘Till the day that I die
Raise a glass to my friends here
Cold ginger and rye

Raise a glass to my friends here
Cold ginger and rye

Little Did You Know

Running into you last night
Was the last thing on my mind
But I couldn’t help myself
From wanting to stop time

Your eyes sparkled like diamonds
The music made them dance
I tried my best to make it last
But I didn’t have a chance

I kept my cool
I played it straight
I didn’t let it show
You had no clue
You looked so great
Little did you know
Little did you know

The time went by so quickly
I don’t know half what was said
It was hard to concentrate
With my heart pounding in my head
There’s no point in second-guessing
No cause for regrets
Just count the small blessings
Nothing more to expect

I kept my cool
I played it straight
I didn’t let it show
You had no clue
You looked so great
Little did you know
Little did you know

You could never know
Never could you know
No never could you know

Biography:

I grew up in Eastern Ontario, and have lived in Ottawa for the past 20 years. I started writing when I moved here, then took a hiatus when family took over. Now I am back writing, performing at open mics in the area, and generally trying to get my songs heard.

I am hopeful that by expanding my network someone will pick up one or more of my songs to record. Rough demos of much of my catalog can be found at www.craigwells.ca and soundcloud.com/craig-wells-23.

I am registered with SOCAN, and (thus far) have only written solo.
