The Songwriters Association of Canada, the Canadian Music Centre (CMC) and Dinah Thorpe present the first event in a developing series called The Mistress Class. The Mistress Class focuses on the knowledge and experience of women-, trans-, and non-binary-identified artists working in music in and around Toronto.

The Mistress Class, February 17: The workshop takes place at the Canadian Music Centre, 20 St. Joseph Street, Toronto, from 2:00-4:30 pm. Due to a limited capacity for in-person participation (roughly 15 people) the CMC and S.A.C. will take steps to enable remote participation for a wider group of artists based on demand.

Featured guests for Session 1:  April Aliermo, Alaska B, Juliet Palmer

Some of the questions that will be explored in the discussion: What are some of our practical and emotional strategies for keeping at it and keeping our self-esteem? How does our relationship with the music industry change over the years? Are there artists and models we look to in terms of how they made a commercial career or how they chose not to? And so on.

Deadline for applications, Jan. 30: All applications to be made through this ONLINE FORM.

S.A.C. would like to acknowledge the support of the SOCAN Foundation.
