The Songwriters Association of Canada and Trebas Institute present Date with a Demo. The demo critique is your chance to meet fellow songwriters and begin or expand your network, while getting personal feedback on your demo from a distinguished panel that can include pro songwriters, A&R reps, publishers, music supervisors, and more. 

This month's panelists are Philemon Cimon and Luc Gilbert.

Luc Gilbert
Luc is a composer who has made an impact in the Canadian music industry. He has composed several pieces for television programs, radio and short films, including the composition and arrangement for one of Quebec’s most popular shows, La Petite Vie. He has also composed the music for numerous advertisements, including Air Canada, Mike’s, and Un gars une fille. He is behind the symphonic orchestration of several songs by Daniel Bélanger and Claude Dubois and has served as musical director and pianist for performances by various artists, including Ginette Reno, Francis Cabrel, and Marie-Michèle Desrosiers.
Well recognized by the industry, he has won two Félix awards for his role as arranger and producer on the album Ciel variable by Pierre Bertrand. He was also nominated for his contribution to the Cirque du Soleil’s Saltimbanco album and RochVoisine’s album, Helene.

Michael Delaney

After his studies in Physics and Communications, Micheal launched his career in sound recording in 1978.  He has worked in numerous recording studios, including Studio Six, Studio Tempo, Son Québec, Studio Morin Heights, Son Soleil, and Studio VICTOR in Montreal. He also worked in many studios in United -States and in Europe. Winner of a Felix and Clios prices with more than 30 gold and platinum records, he collaborated with many artists including Julos Beaucarne, Cirque du Soleil, Jim Corcoran, Claude Dubois, André Gagnon, Patrick Groulx, Paulin Julien, Daniel Lavoie, Jacques Michel, Patrick Norman, Gilles Vigneault, Roch Voisine, and many more. He also did the music mix on many TV shows and films including « J’ai Tué Ma Mère » from Xavier Dolan.
 
At Trebas Institute since 1992, he teaches Music Production, Multitrack Studio, Digital Studio, and Signal Processing. He has been on the board of Musée des ondes Emile Berliner since 2007, and is editor-in-chief of the newsletters « La Voix de son maître » and « His Masters Voice ».

Event Details

Registration is open from 5:15pm to 5:50. No demos will be accepted after this time.

The event is FREE to members. Please have your name and membership # ready at registration. If you do not have a card, contact us and we'll have a replacement one for you at registration. The event is also FREE to Trebas students.

Non-members can attend the event for $15 but cannot submit a demo.

Music of all genres and songwriters of all levels are welcome. It is not necessary to bring a song to attend and hear what the panelists have to say.

Songs must be submitted on audio CD* and are selected at random. Please bring 3 copies of your lyrics for the panelists. Your CD and lyrics will be returned at the end of the night. The first verse and chorus of your song will be played, followed by comments from the panel on the relative merits of each song from both a craft and business point of view.
