It’s a particularly well-travelled line-up this time round… between them, these Canadian artists have lived, worked and performed throughout North America, Germany, Ireland, Russia and even the Arctic Circle. About the Performers

Michael Friedman, one of the West Coast’s most exciting and unique performers, makes full use of a passionate and powerful 3 1/2 octave voice, a stunning and eclectic "New Acoustic" guitar playing approach, and a vast stylistic range. He has been touring extensively in Canada, the United States and Europe has released three critically and publicly acclaimed solo albums, "I Never Knew What Hit Me Until Now" (1995), "Angst Ridden Writer" (1998) and “Diamond Space” (2006), and has a new recording tentatively titled “Random Acts of Tuning” in the works. www.michaelfriedman.ca

Laine Henderson was born and raised on Vancouver’s North Shore, inheriting her father’s love of rhythm and grooves and showing great promise as a jazz vocalist. After studying at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA, Laine’s musical odyssey continued in New York (where she and her band regularly appeared at The Bitter End, CB’s Gallery, the Living Room and Arlene’s) and Dublin, where she opened for well-known Irish songwriters such as Luka Bloom, The 4 of Us, Declan O’Rourke and Damien Rice. Laine also toured North America and Europe extensively as a lead vocalist with Riverdance.  Now back in Vancouver, Laine performs regularly around the Lower Mainland and has just released a new album titled Occasional Rain. www.lainehenderson.com

Deborah Holland was introduced to the world as the lead singer, songwriter and co-founder of Animal Logic with Stewart Copeland of The Police and jazz star Stanley Clarke, with whom she recorded two critically acclaimed albums, appeared on David Letterman, The Tonight Show, VH-1, MTV, and performed at Radio City Music Hall in New York, The Universal Amphitheatre in Los Angeles and other major venues throughout the world. After releasing four solo CDs that garnered international radio play, Deborah now records and tours with Cindy Bullens and Wendy Waldman as folk/Americana “super-group” The Refugees, whose first CD "Unbound" won First Prize (Best Group) and the Overall Grand Prize at the Independent Artists Music Awards in 2009. Deborah has also scored several films, and has written and/or performed dozens of songs in film and on TV. She is Professor Emeritus of Commercial Music at California State University and currently lives in Vancouver. www.deborahholland.net

Cole Petrone is an accomplished singer-songwriter (a finalist in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest and Great American Songwriting Contest) with a unique indie sound. He has lived, worked, and played in over 50 countries, including two years in the Arctic Circle, Germany during the fall of the Berlin wall, Russia shortly after the fall of communism, and New York City at the time of 9/11.  His poignant lyrics on loss, love, and the yearning aspects of the human condition have struck a chord with appreciative fans worldwide, whether he is opening for Bon Jovi in front of 20,000 fans, or playing in over 100 shows in a year. Most recently, assisted by Grammy-nominated co-producer Michael Creber and session players who have performed with a “who’s who” of rock royalty - including Elton John, Chuck Berry, Roy Orbison, KD Lang, Sarah McLachlan, Ray Charles, Ringo Starr and others - Cole has just released Songteller, his third CD of originals. www.colepetrone.com

Host Shari Ulrich took the Bluebird North torch from Ron Irving 15 years ago and is committed to bring great songwriters to Vancouver audiences.  She recently released Find Our Way – her 7th solo album and her 19th overall, including her work with Pied Pumkin, UHF, and her trio with Barney Bentall and Tom Taylor.  www.shariulrich.com
